An Adverse Event is:
"An injury or complication which results in disability or prolongation of hospital stay and that was caused by the healthcare received rather than by the disease from which the patient suffered."
Highly credible studies in Australia, New Zealand, USA, and the UK suggest that about 1 in every 10 patients suffer an Adverse Event causing hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths throughout the hospital systems of the developed world.
The direct economic cost is enormous with direct costs in Australia estimated at over AUD$2 billion, the UK £2 billion, and in the USA up to US$17 billion per annum. Studies show that approximately 75% of these deaths, and costs, are avoidable.
Patientrack was founded in 2003 with the sole purpose of developing a commercial solution to reduce the incidence and impact of Adverse Events in hospital systems. Patientrack is privately funded.
Patientrack produces a better clinical outcome for patients and a potentially powerful economic impact for hospitals and health systems. Patientrack is a patented hospital communications and clinical guidance software application that collects and analyses patient data and alerts the appropriate medical staff of "at risk" patients in a general hospital ward environment.
We aim to deliver a real-time patient alert network that eliminates preventable deaths and disabilities from Adverse Events. Patientrack is specifically designed for the general ward environment where scope for Adverse Events and failure to detect such events is higher than more monitored environments.
